Andrea Capello - Artist Statement
«What meets my eye and burns my soul, what keeps my hands busy and my mind on fire»
Born and raised in Zurich, Switzerland, Andrea Capello studied to become a goldsmith for several years in his late teens before taking over the business from his former mentor in his mid-twenties. He inherited the legacy of the Juwelier Zubler AG, a renowned jewelry business nestled in the heart of Zurich.
The insatiable fascination with nature, as well as ancient and foreign jewelry making techniques also reflect Andrea's home. There are countless books on the subject in his private library and carefully curated objects to be found everywhere in his home near Bern, Switzerland. In his spare time, Andrea loves to dive into the ancient worlds through books, or roams the woods together with his 4 year old son, looking for treasures. Always in toe is Beau, the family dog and a treasurer himself, being a truffle hunter.
Every jewelry piece that leaves Andrea's hands tells a special story - the owner's story. "Each object takes a little piece of me with them", he says. "From the first sketch, to the carefully mastered stone and metal selection, the hours of getting to know the clients to the finished product, I spend a lot of time and thought, connecting the dots from my vision to the future owner's story." That's why Andrea is known in the community as the man who never ceases to amaze with various small and often hidden details. Only the person who wears the piece gets to decide if they want to show it all or keep some of them hidden.
Andrea is a true master of his craft.
